Here’s the story behind the story of how the Green Flash Brewing Co. brand came to be.
Once upon a pint there was a craft brew company struggling to make a name and create a hold for themselves in the market. They were making great beer, but few knew outside the award-winner’s circle.
We started with Green Flash when they were about six hard-working, passionate people operating out of a north San Diego industrial park. Chuck Silva, master brewer, had recently joined them.
We worked closely with the owners Mike and Lisa Hinkley, along with Chuck, to rebuild their brand from the ground up. We started by crafting and telling their story, which included the promise of Taste Enlightenment® and their Flash of Genius limited release line. We then aligned meaning between their brand story, brand name, product approach and market position.

Then, we amplified this meaning into an over-arching brand and sub-brands, creating an enlightening tasting experience and storyline for each beer in their national and seasonal line-ups.
Mth Degree created new packaging, sales materials, web and a social media presence. We shared these stories with lots of people, sparked conversations and created fans through traditional and digital marketing. Our team designed a complete, meaningful and consistent brand experience, including their retail store and tasting room.
Expanding into premium
& giving back.
Next we gave birth to Cellar 3, their uber-premium, barrel-aged brand. Yep, it included the brand story, all messaging, brand identity, packaging, the whole 9-yards.
Then, Mth Degree donated the branding and creative work for their annual fundraiser and seasonal beer Treasure Chest, to support breast cancer research.
Sure, Green Flash has great beers and a smart, driven team. We helped let the world know who made them and, most importantly, why.

Now, Green Flash Brewing Co. is the 4th largest craft brewer in San Diego and the 41st largest in the US. In the fall of 2016 they opened their Virginia Beach 58,000 sq. ft. location to accommodate the 100,000 barrel brewing facility with a large tasting room and beer garden.
We’re proud of our Green Flash partnership and honored to play a role in their delicious success.

Turns out, you can judge a beer by its package.
The shelves stocked with craft beer are getting more crowded with 1,800 new craft beer product launches in 2016, making the brand presentation, packaging and labeling one of the primary purchase influencers for craft beer consumers, according to Nielsen.
The wealth of choice has led to 66% of American craft beer consumers saying that they are either “very” or “extremely” likely to buy craft beer based on its packaging or label, according to Nielsen’s Craft Beer Category Design Audit.
– 71% of craft beer buyers said that they prefer to try new brands with eye-catching packaging.
– Women are more likely to be influenced by packaging design than men (75% vs 66%).
– More than two-thirds (70%) of craft beer buyers make their purchasing decisions at the shelf rather than in advance.
And, we evolved an award-winning craft brewery.
Recently, we completed a comprehensive brand evolution for the good people at Mike Hess Brewing, a highly respected regional craft brewery who has won numerous awards for their beers—28 in the past four years—including two Gold awards at the prestigious World Beer Cup.

In the article Mke Hess explains, “Retaining the heritage of our brand was critical in this brand evolution.
